Chimborazo Volcano (El Arenal Desert)

Description:

This is a desert-like area formed by sand from ancient eruptions of the Chimborazo volcano. In the rainy season, there is frequent snow that covers the entire landscape. Here the volcano can be appreciated clearly as well as the paramo (high altitude ecosystem) surroundings. There are refuges on the volcano where one can relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. It is the perfect place to observe the Vicugnas inhabiting these highlands.
