El Panecillo Hill Viewpoint

Description:

The Panecillo, which means "small piece of bread," due to its location it has become the most important natural viewpoint in the city. Today the Panecillo, or Yavirac, as indigenous peoples call it, is topped with a giant aluminum statue, the "Virgin of Quito" or the "Virgin of the Panecillo." The statue stands 45 meters tall and is based on the work of Bernardo de Legarda, one of the most representative artists of the Quito School of art.
